“…And after you do that, go clean my house, make a four-course dinner and do the laundry. Oh, and on the way here, you can pick up a few things at the store. Let me give you a list. Have you got a pen and paper handy? Well, get them! Hurry up! Some “Extra Help” you are!”
Radio Dispatched Service in the Windsor Star, 1962. I’ll have what she’s having…
Happy Friday to all – more to come on the weekend, so please tune in tomorrow!
(If I have time I might even post again today…we’ll see! You know, if some kind Radio Dispatcher offers to do some stuff around here for me -)

My thoughts exactly! As I was reading the ad I was wondering “And what are you planning to do today, Oh Lady-of-Leisure?” She looks like she doesn’t have a care in the world, and I guess that’s the point of dialing CL 4-1176.
Don’t you love those old phone exchanges, where they used a word to describe the first two numbers? I wonder what CL stood for? Clarence? Clipper? Clodhopper?
The Clarice exchange…as pronounced by Anthony Hopkins.
My grandmother always had a “grocery boy” come deliver her groceries. All she had to do was call the store, and he’d there to her house lickety split with her items. Sure wish my local store had a “grocery boy” for me!
The CL in the phone number stood for Clearwater. The funny thing is Rivard Cleaners is still in business, although they don’t do dispatch service anymore.
