Lispenard’s Parisian Cream

Posted by Lidian on July 5, 2008

Ladies Journal 1884 ads Lispinard's Parisian Cream

This looks good, doesn’t it? I love how they label the before and after pictures – I’m sure no one would be able to figure out that the lefthand lady has not yet slathered on the Lispinard’s Parisian Cream.

Lispinard is Canadian, so how does his cream work out to be Parisian? Maybe it is made in Paris, Ontario. There is a Paris, Ontario, you know – to go with the London that we have got.

And best of all, you can get it sent to you in a plain brown wrapper. You know, so that no one will know you are using zit cream. Because they didn’t notice that your face looks like – well, like the Before picture. And if they didn’t notice, then why are you bothering to buy this stuff?

I do wish the After lady looked a little perkier. She looks positively uneasy. What IS in that Celebrated French Remedy, anyhow?

So many questions, but no answers – because this ad is from 1884.
