Guarding Charm, 1940

Really Ann, going to the movies alone is not so bad! Sometimes a guy just doesn’t want to see what you want to. I know if I want to go see “Casablanca” for the 17th time it’ll probably be just me and a box of Kleenex.
However, if she has a whole row to herself because she isn’t - how do they put it here - guarding charm - then it’s time for a little dab of Mum! I like that name. Mum isn’t just the lady who refuses to buy you more stockings, you know! She is quick, safe and sure. Damn tootin’ she is! She will help you waltz off with a guy in a sharp hat, just like the lady in the background there. That lady has a big hat too - take a note of that too, Ann. Put it on the shopping list along with Mum.
Mind you it is hard to believe that Ann is that “careless” - look at the getup she is in just to go to the movies by herself! That is some fancy outfit. Still, you never know.
That girl behind Ann is having a great time though! And she seems to be on her own. Ah, but she is a heart-breaking blonde! And you know that they have more fun.
Also the ticket taker looks pretty depressed. Hard to tell her Mum situation, she’s behind that glass. The Mum-o-meter doesn’t work through a glass booth.
Cheer up, girls, it’s not that bad! Besides, if you go to the movies alone, you can have all the Jordan almonds for yourself. Those were really good, those Jordan almonds. My favorite 1960s movie candy!
