Face Up In The Cereal

Posted by Lidian on April 18, 2008

You know, sometimes you are really tired in the morning. So tired you could just put your face in the cereal, you know? Oh, I know you wouldn’t really. But it’s just a little hard not to go back to sleep.

Unless of course there already is a face in there. Boy, this would wake me up in a hurry. But not in a good way.

And then after recovering from the initial shock, how the hell do you eat this without displacing a tsunami of milk onto the red-checked tablecloth?

I’ll just have a toasted bagel today, thanks.

Marshmallow Favors How-To, Part 2: Frosty and Timmy

I love these two, they are simple to make but really effective. Can’t you just see a lot of little Frostys (Frosties?) as favors at a holiday dinner, or even perched on a Christmas cake?

By the way, the recipe for the “glue” that is used in these favors is here.

FROSTY THE SNOWMAN

1. First, make top hat: Use a thin, flat piece of licorice candy for brim: glue a larger piece of licorice candy to brim for crown.

2. Attach 2 large marshmallows, ends together, with wooden pick, to resemble snowman. Insert one end of wooden pick into top hat; insert other end of wooden pick into inverted paper plate, for support.

3. Make eyes, mouth and buttons with pieces of licorice string.

TIMMY THE TURTLE

1. Use large marshmallow for body. With wooden pick, attach small gumdrop (flat side down) to bottom edge of body, for head.

2. Cut another small gumdrop into slivers. Make slits around bottom of marshmallow at 1/2-inch intervals; insert gumdrop slivers, for feet. Add 2 pieces licorice string, for eyes.

For Frosty’s hat, flat pieces of licorice might be hard to find – I suggest that you use black construction paper or even black gumdrops rolled flat with a small rolling pin. Any other ideas? Or is flat black licorice available nowadays?

Next time I’ll show you how to make Fifi the Poodle and Harry the Hippo (he is my absolute favorite, aside from George the Giraffe).
