Maybe You’re Missing Something

Well, that is often the case before I pour a few cups of coffee into myself in the morning.

Here we have proof that in the 1950s people got dressed up in their Sunday best to go to the A&P and make googly eyes at the coffee cans. I mean, I don’t even get that dressed up to go to a fancy party. Not that I go to any fancy parties. But if I did.

In the top picture, are they really supposed to be pouring coffee beans out, right in the middle of the store? Those beans won’t be so fresh if you do that, folks. Also the store appears to be somewhere in the upper atmosphere – all those clouds in the background. How’d they manage to park the car?

Second picture, the man is very happy that the woman is either (a) about to put him in that bin/display thing (ma’am, I understand, he looks quite annoying, but I don’t think he ‘ll fit) or (b) yes, that’s it, she is choosing what sort of pot she will be pouring on his head once she gets the coffee beans off the floor.

And then in the final picture, things are “Better!” Yes, you have your cup of coffee now. Maybe you have the “vigorous and winey” Bokar Coffee. We used to buy that back inthe 1990s when we lived in Boston. It wasn’t vigorous or winey or anything – just regular coffee, really.  I was vigorous after I drank the Bokar (usually) – the whiny came and went, if you know what I mean. That depended on a variety of things, really.

I love how the ad writers assume that you are the one loser out of the “9 out of 10″ who prefer A&P coffee. I thought they were supposed to flatter us about having superior taste and everything. But no, they think that “maybe you’re missing something.”

Well, actually I am. I need another cup of coffee. I have to tell you, though – it’s not A&P brand.
